PAWTUCKET—A city man faced a judge on Monday after police allege he attacked the mother of his children over the weekend and then fled with the children to Providence.
The young mother is recovering and her 32-year-old boyfriend, Barrolle Z. Shar of 442 Mineral Spring Ave. is in the ACI.
Shar was arrested by Rhode Island State Police on Saturday and arraigned before a bail commissioner.
He appeared in 6th District Court in Providence on Monday, where he was charged with domestic strangulation, assault with a deadly weapon and kidnapping/domestic.
Shar was ordered held without bail at the ACI pending a Nov. 4 hearing. He was also ordered to have no contact with his girlfriend or their two children.
According to Maj. Arthur Martins, about 8 a.m. on Saturday, police officers were dispatched to 442 Mineral Spring Ave. for a report of domestic violence. When officers arrived, they found the 24-year-old victim, who stated that she had been attacked and choked by Shar, with whom she lives. She said that Shar had taken their two children, ages 3 and 2, and driven off.
The victim, who Martins declined to identify, also told police that Shar is extremely violent and that she feared for the safety of the children.
Pawtucket Police detectives had contacted Rhode Island State Police about putting out an Amber Alert to seek the public's help in locating Shar's vehicle, a white Jeep. However, Martins said that just before the Amber Alert was issued, detectives learned of an address in Providence where Shar might have gone, and state police located his vehicle near this location. He was arrested by state police and the children were found unharmed.
The woman was treated at the hospital and released.
