PAWTUCKET — Following an investigation by the Pawtucket Police Special Squad, a man alleged to have been dealing heroin in the Pawtucket area was taken into custody Tuesday on Broadway.
The suspect was identified as Yatniel S. Padilla, 30, of Benefit Street, Pawtucket. According to Pawtucket Police, Padilla had been under surveillance by the Special Squad following reports of suspicious activity. He was arrested after officers pulled him over in his car.
Padilla was charged with four counts of delivery of heroin, operating on a suspended license, obstruction of a police officer (providing a false name), and a District Court warrant. Police also learned that he had re-entered the United States illegally and a detainer was placed on him by ICE.
Police said that at the time of Padilla's arrest, he had $1,570 in cash in his possession. This currency was seized and forfeiture proceedings have begun to surrender the money in accordance with Rhode Island law.
On Wednesday, Padilla was brought before District Court in Providence for arraignment. He was held without bail.
