Teen struck by vehicle, killed on I-95

August 7, 2014

PAWTUCKET – A 13-year-old girl committed suicide Thursday by deliberately running into the path of an oncoming vehicle on I-95 southbound, at the foot of the Broadway ramp, according to the state police.

The girl was distraught over a “situation with her boyfriend” that came to a head shortly before she was struck by the car, about 2 a.m., according to Lt. Col. Michael Winquist.

She was pronounced dead at Rhode Island Hospital a short time later.

The victim’s name was withheld, but Winquist said her family lives in Pawtucket.

“Obviously it’s a very tragic situation,” he said.
