Stars shine (and aid charities) at McCoy

PAWTUCKET – It was a big night at McCoy Stadium Sunday night with lots of stars, both from sports and entertainment, shining bright, and all for singer and Providence native Jeffrey Osborne’s charitable foundation and the Pawtucket Red Sox Charitable Trust.

The idea was to bring in the big names like Magic Johnson, Osborne’s co-coach; Magic’s Los Angeles Lakers teammates, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar and James Worthy; and singer Smokey Robinson, and have them play a softball game against New England favorites such as New England Patriots Hall of Fame quarterback Steve Grogan, his team’s coach, and the likes of Olympic skater Michelle Kwan, Providence College basketball coach Ed Cooley, and some of his sports contacts, including former Patriots defensive back Ty Law and ex-Red Sox pitcher Oil Can Boyd, to name a few. Cedric the Entertainer was emcee for the event.
