St. Raphael edges Scituate, 44-38, stays unbeaten in D-II

PAWTUCKET – Based on his court-side demeanor late in his squad’s intense Division II tussle with North stalwart Scituate High on Tuesday night, St. Raphael Academy head coach Fred Saunders seemed both miffed and anxious at his girls’ turnovers and lack of offense.

Once the Saints had clinched a solid 44-38 crossover victory over the Spartans, however, he slowly became more gregarious.

“That’s just what we expected from Scituate; they lost to a very good Johnston team last week, and we knew how tough they were,” he grinned after SRA improved to 10-3 overall and a perfect 9-0 in II-Central. “We knew it was going to be a good matchup for us.
