Robert J. Bliss
PAWTUCKET - Robert J. "Bob" Bliss, 84, of Winter Garden, Florida and formerly of Pawtucket, passed away peacefully on May 11, 2013. Born on September 20, 1928 in Rhode Island, he was the son of the late Joseph and Florence (Collinson) Bliss.
Robert was a longtime resident of Pawtucket and West Island, Fairhaven, MA. He was a parishioner of St. Paul's Episcopal Church, Pawtucket until retiring to Florida. Robert proudly served in the United States Navy during the Korean War. Bob was a dedicated member of the Pawtucket Fire Department for many years, where he proudly served as a Lieutenant until retiring in 1987.
Bob especially enjoyed his tenure at the fire station next to McCoy Stadium, where he cheered on the PawSox for many years. He was an avid Boston sports fan who proudly wore his Red Sox and Patriots gear wherever he went and enjoyed chatting about the teams with other transplanted Boston fans. His greatest pleasures were his days spent relaxing at his summer cottage on West Island, where he enjoyed the sun, cool breezes and a panoramic view of the ocean. He was an avid quahogger who loved cooking up red chowder and clam cakes to share with his family. His love of West Island has been passed down to his nieces who still use his 'lucky' old clamming basket.
Bob leaves his beloved grandchildren, Valerie, Eric and Felicia of Florida and his six great grandchildren. 'Uncle Bob' will be greatly missed by his two loving nieces, goddaughter Gale Henry of Seekonk, MA and Cheryl Henry of West Warwick. He is also survived by his son, Robert R. Bliss of Florida and an extended family of cousins in Rhode Island.
His funeral service was held in Kissimmee, Florida on May 23rd, attended by his loving family. Relatives and friends are invited to attend his graveside burial service TUESDAY, MAY 28 at 10 A.M. in Riverside Cemetery, 752 Pleasant Street, Pawtucket, where he will join his beloved Mother in eternal rest.
