PAWTUCKET â€” The mighty Blackstone River helped put Pawtucket on the map over 200 years ago as a center of industry and commerce, and a new study suggests how the waterway can do this again.
The Pawtucket Foundation has just released a â€śRiverfront Corridor Market Analysisâ€ť for Pawtucket and Central Falls that was prepared by FXM Associates, a nationally recognized consultants group. Paid for by the Pawtucket Foundation through grant money and other funding sources, the analysis shows how important the successful redevelopment of the riverfront corridor is to the revitalization of Pawtucket's downtown as well as nearby Central Falls.
Thomas Mann, executive director of the Pawtucket Foundation, said the consulting firm has done similar work for cities and towns throughout the United States and that he thinks the data will be very helpful to city officials as they prioritize their actions to make the riverfront more marketable for future development. â€śThis analysis sends the message loud and clear that the river is important, and there is a range of investment that could happen, â€ť he added.
