Pawtucket school officials stunned by teacher's arrest

May 22, 2014

PAWTUCKET—School officials say George Grimes was a versatile English language arts teacher who had always received positive evaluations for his job performance. Therefore, the news of his arrest Thursday morning on child pornography charges rocked the Shea High School community as well as those on the administration side, said interim Schools Superintendent Patricia DiCenso.
“This was not on our radar,” said DiCenso. “We're sad and surprised. And the children are sad. But the children's safety comes first, and Mr. Grimes has been placed on leave while we investigate this,” she said.
The 46-year-old Grimes, who lives at 787 Narragansett Parkway in Warwick, was arrested at his Warwick home by members of the Rhode Island Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force for the alleged possession of child pornography. He was arraigned later that morning before Associate Judge William Clifton in Third Division District Court. He was released on $10,000 personal recognizance with special conditions including no Internet access and no contact with children.
