PAWTUCKET â Although it doesnât have its own âden,â the Pawtucket Lions Club has been an integral member of the community for 90 years. This decade sees the civic organization continuing to redefine itself within the city, under the motto, âWe Serve,â to provide help where it is needed.
On Saturday, the Pawtucket Lions Club will celebrate its 90th anniversary with a dinner dance for members and guests at the Le Foyer Club on Fountain Street. Organizers say that as they look to commemorate the clubâs past, they are also hopeful about its future and welcome new members who want to get involved.
Some of the many ways that todayâs Lions Club helps out is by providing eyesight screenings for city schools and local organizations and procuring eyeglasses for children and adults in need. The club also provides financial assistance to numerous local food pantries as well as local agencies and organizations benefiting children and adults. The Boys & Girls Club of Pawtucket, Gateway Behavioral Healthcare and the Best Buddies of Rhode Island program are among the recipients, to name just a few.
