OT loss to EWG eliminates Tolman from Division II boys' hoop playoffs

EXETER — It was a mighty difficult end to Tolman High's post-season hopes. The Tigers surrendered a game-high 26 points to Exeter/West Greenwich standout Jack Livsey, who notched 22 in the final and overtime stanzas, and the Scarlet Knights eked out an 87-84 win in a R.I. Division II preliminary playoff on Monday.
For Tolman, which finished with a 10-12 overall mark, senior Jon Percy registered a team-leading 23 points, while classmate and co-captain Mamour Samb managed 22 and sophomore Steven Otis 13. Percy's two free throws knotted the tilt at 70-70, and regulation ended that way, but a lob pass to Percy under the foes' basket with 4.2 ticks left in OT went slightly awry.
“The good news is we went 9-5 the last 14 games, and just came up a bit short here,” stated head coach Mike Kayata. “Still, my guys made big shot after big shot, and we played our best game of the year. I'm proud of the effort and the hard work my guys gave us.”
