CENTRAL FALLS – Most of the time, when members of a community see police officers, they are usually on duty or patrolling the streets in their police cruisers.
That can create a gap of sorts between officers and the residents they serve, a gap that R.I. State Police Col. Steven O’Donnell and others involved in the State Police “New Beginnings Community Outreach Initiative,” hope to close.
The initiative held another community forum Tuesday night at the Central Falls High School gymnasium, where local residents got the chance to hear O’Donnell and other members of the State Police such as Capt. Ernest Quarry Jr., training director, and Sgt. Scott Raynes, executive director of the R.I. Municipal Police Training Academy, explain the roles of police in creating safe communities while encouraging the residents to join those efforts themselves.
