Mayor goes ‘in the tank’ to help veterans at block party

July 13, 2014

PAWTUCKET — It was certainly warm enough for a dunk tank to be operating at the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 306 Block Party Sunday afternoon, and Mayor Donald R. Grebien and City Councilman Albert J. Vitali Jr. didn't disappoint the kids and a few adults looking to see them take the plunge.

The dunk tank was part of the fundraising activities scheduled for the block party to help fund Post programs for veteran outreach and services and also bring a little attention to the 95 year-old organization and its 94-year-old Women’s Auxiliary.

Grebien followed Vitali into the tank after the City Council member filled the morning shift at the festival, beginning at 11 a.m. and running until 5 p.m. Vitali was still smiling even after taking numerous dunks for the $1 for three softball throws of fun.
