Manuel J. C. Tavares
PAWTUCKET - Manuel J. C. Tavares, 73, of Riley St., passed away Monday in the R. I. Hospital, Providence. He was the beloved husband of Astrid (Antunes) Tavares.
Born in Cabouco, St. Miguel, Azores he was the son of the late Eduardo and Maria C. (Carreiro) Tavares. He resided in Pawtucket for the past 46 years.
He was employed by the former American Insulated Wire Co., Pawtucket for 32 years until his retirement. He was a communicant of Our Lady of Fatima Church, Cumberland and a long time member of the Clube Juventude Lusitana, Cumberland hold the membership number 63. He was a member and Past Vice President of the Uniao Portugues Benificente, Lodge 12 and was a founder the Irmandade Divino Espirito Santo Benefeitores of the U.P.B., he was also a long time "Benfica" fan.
Besides his wife he leaves a loving daughter, Ana Mafalda Antunes Tavares of Pawtucket; four sisters,Maria E. Furtado of Ponta Delgada, St. Michael, Azores, Eduarda Ferreira, Isabel Rifo and Maria J. Alves all of Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. Also surviving are several nieces and nephews.
A celebration of his life will be held Saturday at 9 a.m. from the J. J. Duffy Funeral Home, 757 Mendon Rd. Rte. 122, Cumberland. Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in Our Lady of Fatima Church, Fatima Dr., Cumberland. Burial will follow in Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Cumberland. Relatives and friends are kindly invited.
