ATTLEBORO - Miss Amaral died Wednesday peacefully at home. She was 91 years old, born in Attleboro, Mass. She was the daughter of the late Diamantino A. Amaral and Amelia (Araujo) Amaral and had lived in Pawtucket for 70 years. She was a member of St Anthony's Church Pawtucket, RI.
Julia was employed by Memorial Hospital in Rhode Island as a Registered Nurse for 41 years until her retirement in 1984. She was a member of the Memorial Hospital Nurses Alumni Class of 1943. In 1972, Julia graduated a program at Mass General Hospital and Harvard Medical School to become an Adult Nurse Practitioner, assisting doctors in examining and assessing patient conditions as well as completing medical charts. Julia was the third Rhode Islander to achieve this designation, and the first to do so in a hospital setting.
She leaves behind her best friend of more than 75 years, Zita Lanni, and a large extended loving family, including several cousins and more than a dozen godchildren. Julia was a caretaker by nature and extended that compassion to everyone she met. She will be most missed for her kindness, generosity, and abundance of love. She would like to be remembered for the laughter and fond memories she shared with her family and friends.
The Funeral Services will be held 9:30 a.m. Monday from the Merrick R. Williams Funeral home 530 Smithfield Avenue Pawtucket, RI 02860. Christian Burial at 11:00 a.m. in St. Anthony's Church, 32 Lawn Avenue, Pawtucket. Burial will be in Mount St. Mary's Cemetery. Relatives and friends are invited and may call Monday 9:30 to 10:30 a.m.
