GREENVILLE, RI - Joseph Soares, 89, of Greenville, RI formerly of Attleboro passed away on Saturday, July 11, 2014 at Overlook Nursing & Rehab Center, Pascoag, RI. He was the husband of the late Edna N. (Surprenant) Soares.
Born December 20, 1924 in Fall River, MA he was a son of the late Jose and Mary (Martins) Soares.
Joseph was a graduate of the former Pawtucket East High School. He then continued his education at Rhode Island College earning a bachelor's degree and a master's degree. Early in his career Joseph was employed as a shop foreman at Pawtucket Auto Supply for over 20 years. After earning his bachelor's degree he became a teacher and then a guidance counselor at Lincoln Senior High School for 20 years. He also was a driver's education instructor for the town of Lincoln, RI for 10 years.
Joseph enjoyed gardening and he grew and maintained beautiful roses. He loved square dancing and arts and crafts. He cherished his time spent living in Port Richie, FL.
Joseph is survived by his two daughters, Susan Doty of North Attleboro and Christine Meyer of Greenville, RI; a sister, Alice Carello of Pawtucket, RI; his grandchildren, Erica Doty of Attleboro, Alyssa Soderquist of Woonsocket, RI, Nathan, Aaron and Emma Meyer all of Greenville, RI; and many nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a visitation on Tuesday, July 15 from 4 to 8 p.m. in the Duffy-Poule Funeral Home, 20 Peck St., Attleboro.
A funeral will be conducted on Wednesday, July 16 at 9 a.m. from the Duffy-Poule Funeral Home, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial, at 10 a.m., in St. Theresa's Church, 18 Baltic St., South Attleboro. Burial will follow in Notre Dame Cemetery, Pawtucket, RI.
