PAWTUCKET â€” Raymond T. â€śChipâ€ť Hoyas, a former top Senate aide and former Pawtucket City Councilman, pleaded no contest to 52 counts of fraud and two related charges on Thursday in Superior Court.
According to Attorney General Peter F. Kilmartin, the 53-year-old Hoyas, with a last known address of 162 Mt. Vernon Boulevard, Pawtucket, changed his plea from not guilty to no contest on the 54 charges The plea of no contest to 52 counts of forgery, one count of larceny over $500 and one count of obtaining money under false pretenses was entered before Superior Court Justice Kristin E. Rodgers. Hoyas' sentencing is scheduled for Dec. 14 and he remains free on $10,000 personal recognizance.
As part of the agreement, Hoyas will reportedly serve four years on home confinement with the remaining six years of his term to be suspended with probation, plus pay restitution.
