CUMBERLAND - Gerard D. Lafond, 62, of 480 Metacom Ave., Bristol and formerly of Cumberland passed away Monday in the R. I. Veterans Home, Bristol.
Born in Pawtucket he was the son of Bernadette (Lemoine) Lafond of Cumberland, and the late Donat Lafond.
He was employed as a toolmaker for the Hindley Mfg. Co., Cumberland for over 20 years. Mr. Lafond was a 1969 Cumberland High School graduate. He was a U. S. Army, Vietnam War veteran and was awarded the Bronze Star. He was a founding member and officer of the R. I. Chapter of the Vietnam Veterans Motorcycle Club. He was also a Harley Davidson and Studebaker enthusiast.
Besides his mother he leaves two sons, Jared and Jacob Lafond and a daughter Renee Lafond all of Cranston. Four brothers, Arthur Lafond, Baree, MA; Robert Lafond of Troy, NH; Richard Lafond of Cumberland and Donat Lafond II of Lincoln. Three sisters, Lorraine Ribeiro and Marguerite Savickas both or Cumberland; Denise Montminy of Douglas, MA and many nieces and nephews. He was also the brother of the late Jeanne Kimbrall. He also leaves his former wife Stacy Lafond of Warwick.
A celebration of his life will be held Friday at 10 a.m. from the J. J. Duffy Funeral Home, 757 Mendon Rd. Rte. 122, Cumberland. Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. in St. Joseph Church, Mendon Rd. Cumberland. Burial with military honors will follow in R. I. Veterans Cemetery, Exeter. Relatives and friends are kindly invited.
