George J. Metfooney
SEEKONK - George J. Metfooney, 80, died at the New Bedford Rehabilitation Hospital on Friday, June 14, 2013 after a long illness. He was the beloved husband of Carmela (Gentile) Metfooney. He was born in Pawtucket, the son of the late John and Hapel Metfooney, and lived in Pawtucket and nearby Seekonk for most of his life.
George was the owner/operator of Cousin's Food Store and Restaurant in Pawtucket. He was also a proud veteran of the United States Army, serving during the Korean War.
In addition to his wife, he leaves his children Gregory Aspen of Waltham, Matthew Aspen of Seekonk, Teressa Metfooney and Geoffrey Metfooney of Pawtucket; a sister Helen Lacy of N. Providence and a brother Joseph Metfooney of Pawtucket. He was a loving grandfather to Annaliese Ferguson-Metfooney and Matthew Mendoza-Aspen. He was the brother of the late Margaret Paradis and Marie Remy.
His funeral will be held from the Darlington Mortuary of L. Heroux & Son, 1042 Newport Avenue on Thursday, June 20, 2013 at 9:00 a.m.; a Mass of Christian Resurrection will be celebrated at Our Lady, Queen of Martyrs Church, Coyle Drive (off Central Avenue, Rte. 152), Seekonk at 10:00 a.m. Burial with military honors will follow at Mt. St. Mary's Cemetery, 661 Prospect Street, Pawtucket. Calling hours at the funeral home will be on Wednesday, June 19, 2013 from 4:00 pm - 7:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations to PBS or RISPCA in his memory would be appreciated.
