PAWTUCKET - Frank Mennucci, 88, of Pawtucket died peacefully after a brief illness, surrounded by his loving family at the Philip Hulitar Hospice Center on May 26, 2013. He was married to his beloved wife Mary Ann Schommer of Devils Lake N.D. for 60 years, who passed away in 2006. He is the son of the late Guilio and Ida Mennucci both of whom immigrated to the US from Italy and settled in Pawtucket. He was predeceased by his brothers John and Eugene and his sister Rose Balthazard, all of Pawtucket. He is survived by a sister Caroline Kemp of Virginia Beach, VA. He leaves four children: James Mennucci and his wife Coleen of Annapolis, MD; Catherine Mennucci of Pawtucket; Robert Mennucci of Bainbridge Island, WA; Mary Small and her husband Jack of Seekonk MA. He was also the grandfather of Julie, Michael and Nicola Mennucci all from Annapolis, MD and, Jennifer and Luke Small of Seekonk.
For most of his life, he worked in the family's ornamental iron business taught to him by his father--a trade that had been passed down through 6 family generations before him. He also worked for and retired as a dispatcher from the Pawtucket Fire Department.
He was a lifelong resident of Pawtucket and wintered in Spring Hill, FL for 25 years. He was a Gunners mate in the US Navy serving aboard USS Ticonderoga in WW II and was present at the Japanese surrender in 1945. He was a communicant of St Teresa's Church and a past Grand Knight of the Delaney Counsel K of C.
The funeral for Mr. Mennucci will be Friday at 9:00 am from the MANNING-HEFFERN FUNERAL HOME, 68 Broadway, Pawtucket. There will be a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Teresa's Church, 358 Newport Avenue, Pawtucket at 10:00 am. His burial will be in Notre Dame Cemetery, Pawtucket. The calling hours for Frank will be Thursday 4-7 pm in the funeral home.
