Cumberland park gets new paved lot

July 14, 2014

CUMBERLAND – The town’s Diamond Hill Park off Diamond Hill Road has a new asphalt parking lot thanks to a $165,542 improvement project but Mayor Daniel J. McKee is asking the Town Council for an expansion of the work when it meets on Wednesday.

McKee said the Department of Environmental Management rules for use of the open space park allowed the initial paving project to cover just one acre of the available parking area at the one-time, state-operated ski area to be paved by the Cardi Corporation under the initial work.

But there is also unpaved parking at Diamond Hill that runs over toward the town’s athletic fields along Diamond Hill Road that McKee would also like to see improved as part of the town’s Diamond Hill Park improvements. The unpaved area is often used by people participating in special events at Diamond Hill Park such as concerts at the park stage, road races and other competitions, and of course Cumberlandfest.
