SANDWICH, MA - Carol W. (Pond) Burnham age 97, died peacefully, early Saturday morning, April 19, 2014 at Cape Heritage Nursing Home in Sandwich, MA, after a long, heroic battle with Alzheimer's disease. Despite the disease, Carol remained a kind and gentle woman who was loved by all her caregivers.
One of three daughters of the late Asa A. and Vera M.(Decker) Pond, she was born in Central Falls Rhode Island February 18, 1917 and graduated from Central Falls High School. Carol was an accomplished soprano singing in Rhode Island Civic Chorale, many church choirs and choruses.
She was also a professional home baker, whose brownies were legend in the Central Falls area.
She will be dearly missed by her loving son, Theodore E. Burnham Jr. and wife Ann F. of Plymouth, MA; her six grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren; her sister-in-law Mrs. Frederick Burnham along with nine nieces and nephews and their families. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Theodore E. Burnham, Sr. in 1993 and her sisters Silvia Saverine, 2012 and Deirdre M. Fisher in 2013.
A private graveside service will be held at the Short Falls Cemetery in Epsom, New Hampshire. By request of the family, there will be no visiting hours. Donations in her memory may be made to the New Rye Church, 289 New Rye Road, Epsom, NH 03234 in lieu of flowers.
