RUMFORD - Arnold R. 'Arnie' Fontaine, 71, died unexpectedly on November 29th at the Memorial Hospital of Rhode Island, surrounded by his loving family. He was the husband of Kathleen (Pailthorpe) Fontaine. Arnie was born in Pawtucket, the son of the late Ovila and Juliette (Raymond) Fontaine and lived most of his life the Pawtucket/Rumford area.
He worked in management for Georgia Pacific, Newell Lumber and Kamco Supply Company for several years prior to retirement.
He was a talented musician and with his brothers were known as The Fontaines. He played bass and guitar and was considered to be the best lead singer in the area. He was also an avid collector/hobbyist with H.O. scale trains for many years.
In addition to his wife he is survived by his children: Dr. Arnold A. (Sharon) Fontaine of State College, PA; Shari (Kosta) Bitsis of Seekonk, MA; Marc A. Fontaine of Pawtucket; Kelly R. (Brian) Fontaine-Carlos of East Providence; and Katie Fontaine of Rumford; two brothers: Maurice L. Fontaine and Roland N. Fontaine both of Pawtucket; two sisters: Theresa Jessop of Maine; and Dianne Verrier of Coventry. He was the proud grandfather of: Eric (Colleen) Fontaine; Elizabeth Fontaine; Andreana and Nicholos Bitsis; and Benjamin Carlos; and many nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held in the Darlington Mortuary of L. Heroux & Son, 1042 Newport Avenue, Pawtucket on Saturday, December 8th at 5:00 p.m. The family will receive relatives and friends from 2:00 - 5:00 p.m. prior to the funeral service. Burial in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, East Providence will be private.
Please omit flowers. Donations to the Intensive Care Unit of the Memorial Hospital of Rhode Island in his memory would be appreciated.
