Alves to run for mayor in Cumberland

May 30, 2014

CUMBERLAND – The field of candidates to replace departing Mayor Daniel McKee grew to three on Friday as former Town Councilman Daniel Alves announced his bid for the seat.

Alves, a Democrat like the two other prospective candidates, Manuel DaCosta and William Murray, pointed to both his council experience and his operation of small business for nearly 40 years as making him well qualified for the town’s executive post.

“Mr. McKee, who has done a fine job, has chosen to seek the lieutenant governor’s position and we are going to assist him to the best of our ability,” Alves said at his Galinda’s Automotive Service business at 94 Broad St. near Town Hall on Friday.
