PAWTUCKET – From the walk he was able to work after falling behind 0-2 to going the other way for a three-run home run, there was plenty to like regarding Will Middlebrooks’ second rehab game with the Pawtucket Red Sox on Wednesday night.
Playing seven innings, Middlebrooks went 2-for-3 with five RBI in Pawtucket’s come-from-behind 7-4 triumph against Charlotte. On the disabled list with a lower back strain, the third baseman confirmed following the game that he plans to play all nine innings of Thursday’s contest.

PAWTUCKET – Some PawSox notes to pass along as the locals close out an eight-game homestand with a matinee against Indianapolis.

-- Tuesday’s starter was supposed to be Rubby De La Rosa, but those plans were scrapped after the hard-throwing Pawtucket pitcher tweaked a muscle in his side while throwing on flat ground on Monday.
“Better safe than sorry with him,” said manager Gary DiSarcina. “It’s nothing to get concerned about. He came in (Tuesday) and said he felt better.”

PAWTUCKET – As radio broadcaster Paul Harvey would say, “And now, the rest of the story.”
Following Pawtucket’s 5-3 win over Gwinnett on Tuesday, Jose Iglesias spoke about his absence from the lineup for three straight games earlier this month, such a course of action coming on the heels of manager Gary DiSarcina pulling the shortstop in the middle of a game.

PAWTUCKET – Some PawSox notes to pass along on this Sunday:

-- Jackie Bradley Jr. is not in the lineup for the second straight day. According to manager Gary DiSarcina, the outfielder has a touch of bicep tendinitis. Bradley hasn’t played in the field since the first game of Pawtucket’s eight-game home stand, which concludes Sunday against Durham. He also sat out last Sunday and Monday before returning to the lineup as the club’s DH for the Tuesday and Thursday games (Wednesday was an off-day).

Optimism reigns supreme as Aceves gets set to make first start with PawSox

PAWTUCKET – Which Alfredo Aceves will PawSox fans get to see on Thursday night?
Will they see a pitcher who is prone to coming apart at the seams when things go south on the mound, or will the Aceves who in good times with the Red Sox made his mark as a starting and relieving option show up?
Thursday will mark Aceves’ first appearance on the rubber since last Tuesday’s 13-0 rain-marred debacle at Fenway Park. The troubled pitcher has been in Pawtucket since last Saturday and in the eyes of manager Gary DiSarcina has been a model citizen.

PAWTUCKET – David Ortiz is resuming his rehab assignment Tuesday afternoon after two straight days of being MIA from Pawtucket’s lineup. He’s batting third and serving as the PawSox’ designated hitter.
His left heel heavily bandaged after going through some pregame agility drills, Ortiz sat at his locker and held court with several reporters for about eight minutes. The conversation with the Red Sox slugger started off about his health before switching over to the tragic events that marred Monday’s Boston Marathon.

McGair: PawSox' Webster cool customer in first Triple-A test

MOOSIC, Pa. – In the eyes of some, Allen Webster passed his Triple-A debut with flying colors.
As far as the promising pitcher is concerned, the fact he ended up tossing five shutout innings of two-run ball with five strikeouts and three walks doesn’t paint the entire picture. Regarded as the top pitching prospect in Boston’s minor-league system, Webster said that things could have gone better Friday night as Pawtucket rallied for its second straight win against Scranton/Wilkes-Barre, 9-4.

PROVIDENCE – It’s onto the next game for the PC Friars.
Trailing 62-61 with 6:09 remaining and with two of their better players saddled in foul trouble, the Friars closed hard to secure a 77-68 win over a determined Robert Morris squad in second-round NIT action Monday. PC’s reward is a “Round of 8” contest at Baylor Wednesday. The winner of that game advances to the Final Four next week at Madison Square Garden.
