PAWTUCKET- Helen M. Kratochwil 88, formerly of Roosevelt Avenue passed away Sunday November 6, 2011 at Berkshire Place Providence. She was the beloved wife of the late Frank S. Kratochwil.
Born in Pawtucket she was a daughter of the late Joseph and Elizabeth (Strzemecka) Presnal. She lived most of her life in Pawtucket.
Before retiring she was employed as a Payroll Clerk for the American Insulated Wire & Cable Co. of Pawtucket for many years.

PAWTUCKET - Lewis G. Chartier 88, of Pawtucket, RI. (CAROUSEL MAN) passed away Saturday November 5, 2011 at St. Antoine's Nursing Home in N. Smithfield, RI.
Predeceased by his parents, Ernest and Sylvia (Rushlow) Chartier, his brothers Robert, Norman, and Ronald Chartier, grandson Mark Chartier and granddaughter Amber Chartier. He leaves behind his dear wife of 63 years Clara (Lafrate) Chartier, sons Raymond and Richard Chartier and daughters, Susan Martins and Cheryl Fratus, 9 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren.

MANVILLE - Alice L. Sylvestre, 79, formerly of Central St., Manville, died Saturday at Oakland Grove Health Care Center. She was the wife of the late Adelard Sylvestre.
Born in South Attleboro, she was a daughter of the late Leon and Mathilda (Dube) Tougas. She was raised in Central Falls and resided in Manville for over 50 years.
Mrs. Sylvestre was employed at the former Premium Cleaners on Central St. in Manville for over 25 years before retiring.
She was a longtime communicant of St. James Parish and a member of the Montcalm Club.

PAWTUCKET - George F. Peters Sr, 80, formaly of Littlefield Street, Pawtucket where he lived with his granddaughter Alicia Medeiros until recently moving in with his daughter Pamela Aguiar passed away November 6, 2011 peacefully at home.
He was the husband of the late Theresa E. (Lawrence) Peters
Mr. Peters was born in Pawtucket, the son of the late Ernest J. and Tryphena (Jane) Peters, and the youngest of 13 sibblings. He was a foreman at ITT Royal Electric for over 39 years. Mr. Peters then worked as a driver for Thrifty Car Sales & Rental until retiring in 2007.

Veterans gather for group photo

Approximately 50 veterans from the Blackstone Valley gathered on Saturday for a photo session in advance of Friday's Veterans Day holiday.

PAWTUCKET -- The city will celebrate Veterans Day on Friday with a memorial ceremony scheduled for 11 a.m. All residents are invited to join Mayor Don Grebien and members of the city council at Veterans' Memorial Park, Roosevelt Ave. & Exchange St.

Shea, Cumberland in soccer showdown tonight

CRANSTON – Form held true in three of the four Division I quarterfinal playoff games contested over the past three days. Top-seeded La Salle, third-seeded Shea and fourth-seeded Barrington all advanced. Only second-seed Central Falls fell by the wayside, beaten 3-2 by seventh-seeded Cumberland on Saturday afternoon.
That sets up unbeaten La Salle versus defending champion Barrington in tonight’s 5 p.m. opener at Cranston Stadium followed by Shea and Cumberland at 7 p.m.

Division II grid playoff field finalized

Throw out the regular-season records because in Division II, the playoffs beckon.
In a division known for staging “Pre-Thanksgiving Madness” due to an eight-team field, the Div. II playoffs get underway this coming weekend with four quarterfinal-round matchups. For local entries Tolman, St. Raphael and Cumberland, the mission is clear – extend the season to Nov. 30, the date set aside for the semifinals.

Saints survive, earn playoff berth

FOSTER --- St. Raphael Academy is heading back to the Division II playoffs, but in order to earn their berth, the Saints had to survive a royal barnburner on the road with Ponaganset High on Saturday afternoon.
The Saints scored a pair of fourth-quarter touchdowns and turned up the heat defensively in the final 18 minutes of play to bus home with an exciting come-from-behind 29-23 victory that not only clinched their berth, but also snuffed out the Chieftains’ playoff hopes.

RI Music Hall of Fame coming to Pawtucket

PAWTUCKET — Move over, Cleveland. The City of Pawtucket is going to have its own Music Hall of Fame.
From the late George M. Cohen to the Cowsills to Tavares and Duke Robillard, there are a surprising number of famous musicians and music industry professionals with ties to the Ocean State. As such, efforts are underway to create a Rhode Island Music Hall of Fame to celebrate their legacy, and it will be located at Hope Artiste Village in Pawtucket.

City man gets indicted on sex assault charges involving minors

PAWTUCKET—A 79-year-old Pawtucket man, Hillario DePina, was indicted by the Providence County Grand Jury on Oct. 28 on sexual assault charges involving minors.
According to the Rhode Island Attorney General's Office, DePina, of Leonard Jenard Drive, was charged with two counts of first-degree child molestation and one count of enticement of a child.

'MET' WITH SUCCESS -- Legendary club owner Lupo reflects on first year

PAWTUCKET — It was a little over a year ago — Sept. 9, 2010 to be exact — that The Met brought the music back to Pawtucket. And despite a tough economy, veteran club owner Rich Lupo said the venue at 1005 Main St. has been a success — although he feels it remains somewhat undiscovered by Pawtucket residents themselves.
“You're always surprised how far people will come to see a show. We've had people from a 40 to 60 mile radius depending on the artist,” Lupo said. “Yet, I wish people from Pawtucket would think of it as a close location.”

Tolman survives shootout to put away Middletown in Div. II playoffs

PAWTUCKET – Even though goals were hard to come by on Friday night when Tolman hosted Middletown in a Division II playoff game, there was no shortage of exciting action and stunning developments during the 100 minutes of soccer and the dramatic shootout that ended the evening with the Tigers advancing to the D-II semifinals.
Tolman, which saw a hard-earned 1-0 lead disappear in the final minute of regulation, won the game on the basis of shootout goals by Sebastian Estrada and Calvin DeOliveira along with four pressure saves from keeper Adam Ghazal.

Jennie A. Bourgette, 89,of Cumberland, died Thursday at Landmark Medical Ctr. Woonsocket. She was the wife of the late Alfred E. Fred Bourgette. Born in Cumberland, she was a daughter of the late John and Rose (DAgostino) Prete.
She is survived by her son Alan and his wife Darleen Bourgette of Cumberland and nieces and nephews. She was the sister of the late Anthony, Eugene, Andrew and Ernest Prete, Eleanor Kolenich, Caroline Harpin and Antoinette Feuti.

PAWTUCKET - Darlene "Doll" M. (Roy) Brady, 34, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, November 2, 2011.
A lifelong resident of Pawtucket, she was a daughter of Edward Ted V. and Donna M. (Comey) Roy. Doll was a 2009 graduate of CCRI School of Nursing, and was a Registered Nurse at Riverview Healthcare Community, Coventry.
Besides her parents, she leaves three children, Chelsea M., Michael P. and Mikayla J. Brady all of Pawtucket; a sister, Sandra L. Roy of Phoenix, Arizona and many aunts and uncles.

Born in Pawtucket she was a daughter of the late Lawrence "HENRY" and Katarzyna (Ozog) Rafalski. She was a lifelong resident of Pawtucket.
Before retiring she was employed by the former Vista Manufacturing Co. as a Seamstress. She was an avid Harmonica Player from the age of 16.

N. ATTLEBORO - Stanley Matthew Podsiadlo, 85, of Richards Avenue, North Attleboro, died on Tuesday, November 1, 2011 at Sturdy Memorial Hospital in Attleboro. He was the husband of Ruth M. (Paradis) Podsiadlo to whom he was married on July 4, 1953.
Born in Central Falls, Rhode Island on December 13, 1925, he was a son of the late Samuel and Katarzyna (Dziok) Podsiadlo. Raised and educated in Central Falls, Rhode Island, Mr. Podsiadlo resided in North Attleboro since his marriage 58 years ago.
