PAWTUCKET â€” Pawtucket Police are investigating an early morning incident on Wednesday in which shots were fired, damaging the outside of a house on Lucas Street.
Major Arthur Martins said that police were notified at around 12:30 a.m. that residents in the vicinity of Smithfield Avenue and Weeden Street in the city's Fairlawn section had heard an argument and the sound of gun shots being fired.
Arthur Moreau Jr.
PAWTUCKET- Arthur Moreau Jr., of York Avenue, Pawtucket died Tuesday, March 20, 2012.
He was the husband of Loretta (Cranshaw) Moreau. They had been married 66 years.
Mr. Moreau was born in Pawtucket, the son of the late Arthur Moreau Sr. and Elizabeth (Beauchamp) Moreau.
He was a truck driver for Johnson Motor Lines for many years.
William Joseph Lopes
JAMAICA PLAIN, MA- William Joseph Lopes formerly of Pawtucket, RI died Tuesday, March 20, 2012 in Jamaica Plain, MA.
He was born June 11, 1925 in Falmouth, MA.
He was the son of the late Noemia DeCosta and Manuel Lopes and husband of the late Norma Conti.
He is survived by two sons, William and John; John's partner, Stephen; two sisters, Emily Romiza and Virginia Rosa of Falmouth, and two grandchildren, William and Ben.
Gilbert J. Lapre
PAWTUCKET- Gilbert J. Lapre, "Gil" 82, passed March 20th. He was the husband of Shirley (O'Neil) Lapre. They had been married for 60 years.
Gilbert had been employed for 27 years by Texas Instruments retiring in 1993. He was an Army Veteran of the Korean War.
Five years have passed since the R.I. Interscholastic League recognized cheerleading as a full-fledged varsity sport. Time will tell if such a distinction remains in place moving forward.
CENTRAL FALLS â€” Cesar Fajardo had just finished playing in a youth soccer game in North Smithfield on Sunday when his coach, Mayro Estrada, told him and his teammates he had a special surprise in store.
Estrada then leveled the news that two members of the New England Revolution professional soccer team, not to mention some of the organization's Academy youth coaches, would conduct a â€śCommunity Clinicâ€ť inside the Central Falls High School gymnasium Tuesday night.
PAWTUCKET â€” On Thursday, Pawtucket Mayor Donald Grebien stood with his fellow leaders from nine other Rhode Island communities as Gov. Lincoln Chafee outlined proposed legislation aimed at reforming municipal pension plans and providing fiscal relief to cash-strapped cities and towns.
The governor had chosen Pawtucket, which falls under the category of â€śhighly distressed communitiesâ€ť according to drafted criteria, as the location for the press conference announcing his plan, and Grebien was the first of several mayors to take to the podium and voice his support.
PAWTUCKET- Antonio Gomes, 50, passed at home.
Born in Brava, Cape Verde, a son of Anna N. Gomes and the late Jose Gomes.
He had worked for Providence metalizing and the former School House Candy.
He is survived by 3 brothers, Joao J. Gomes, Jose J. Gomes, Daniel Gomes, 6 sisters, Maria Delgado, Eugenia Fernandes, Alice Xavier, Candida DePina, Anita Fernandes and Joanna Gibau and many nieces and nephews.
CENTRAL FALLS- Gertrude (Proulx) Dumont, passed away on March 20, 2012.
She was the beloved wife of Normand H. Dumont. Gertrude was the daughter of the late Jean Paul and Jeanne (Boucher) Proulx.
Gertrude was retired from the Central Falls School Department.
Stacia H. Siekiera
PAWTUCKET- Stacia H. Siekiera 94, of Newport Avenue passed away Monday March 19, 2012 at the Grandview Center Cumberland. She was the beloved wife of the late Anthony C. Siekiera.
Born in Central Falls she was a daughter of the late Lawrence and Victoria (Skowron) Strzesak. She lived in Pawtucket most of her life.
Before retiring Mrs. Siekiera was employed as an Assembler for Swank Jewelry Co. for 10 years.
Laura E. Harrison
EAST PROVIDENCE- HARRISON, Laura E. (Potter) 91, of East Providence died March 17, 2012. She was the wife of the late Thomas Harrison.
She was born in Lincoln, RI a daughter of the late Earl and Laura (Minchin) Potter. She was a homemaker and a member of Woodlawn Baptist Church. She is survived by 2 daughters Rev. Patricia Harrison of Barrington and Deborah Harrison of Castleton, NY. Sister of the late Dorothy Potter.
PAWTUCKET â€” Outside the ring, Thomas Falowo is known as a quiet, respectful person, but inside the ring, heâ€™s made plenty of noise in his 16 months as a middleweight boxer.
The Pawtucket resident has stormed out to a commanding 5-0 record that includes knockouts in his first four fights, and on Thursday night, he will shoot for his sixth victory when he appears on the undercard of the â€śHome Invasionâ€ť show, presented by Jimmy Burchfieldâ€™s Classic Entertainment & Sports, at the Twin River Event Center.
EAST PROVIDENCE â€” Gabrielle Turner admitted it during gym class Monday afternoon.
The East Providence High senior and her friends did, in fact, attend the Townies' 5-2 loss to Mount Hope in Game 2 of the R.I. Division III Hockey Tournament best-of-three finals set on Friday night, and she claimed she was truly saddened by it.
PROVIDENCE â€“ The Lincoln police officer convicted of kicking a handcuffed woman in the head during a security detail at Twin River has escaped jail time for the offense.
PAWTUCKET- Anne Choiniere, 84, of Pawtucket died on Thursday at Home & Hospice Care of R.I. In Providence. She was the wife of the late Leo Choiniere.
Born in Pawtucket, she was a daughter of the late Francis and Irene (Yattaw) Choiniere.
She loved to cook, crochet and knit and was very fond of pets.
Survivors are two sisters: Mary Wagner and Elsie Arsenault; two brothers: Clarence and Lawrence LaBree, all of Pawtucket and many nieces and nephews. She was the sister of the late Victoria LaBree, Irene Petit, Francis LaBree, Jr., Joseph, Robert and William LaBree.

PAWTUCKET- Dr. George J. Grinsell DC, Died March 16th at Home and Hospice Care of Rhode Island.
He is Survived by his wife Donna (Lanzi) Grinsell and first wife Mary Joyce Grinsell.
Daun Alan White
MANNING, SC- Daun Alan White, 62, former resident of Whitman, MA, husband of 42 years to Karen Rose Orcutt White, died Friday, February 24, 2012, at Palmetto Health Richland Memorial Hospital in Columbia.
Born December 21, 1949, in Brockton, MA, he was the son of the late Lester Leroy White and the late Gladys Elizabeth Thompson White.
PROVIDENCE -- Immediately after East Providence High had secured a 2-1 triumph over gritty Mount Hope High in the rubber tilt of the R.I. Division III Hockey Tournament finals Sunday afternoon, the Townies threw their gloves and sticks high into the air.
They then mobbed freshman netminder Marc LaValley behind his Schneider Arena goal line.
Given the length of time he spent under the pile of humanity, it was amazing LaValley could breathe to deliver his comments regarding EPâ€™s capture of its first state title since 2005.
PAWTUCKET- Maria (George) Silva, 67, passed March 16th. She was the wife of the late Frank Silva.
Born in Providence, a daughter of the late Henry S. and Deolinda (Pacheco) George.
She is survived by two daughters, Linda Zammarelli of Pawtucket and Joey Ann Pereira of Florida, a brother, Henry George Jr. of Florida, two sisters, Diane Tierney of Florida and Susan Pimentel of Jamestown, RI, seven grandchildren, two great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. She was the sister of the late Rosalina Dias and Josephine Camara.
PAWTUCKET- Olga Nikodem 92, of Atria Senior Living in Lincoln passed Away
Saturday March 17, 2012 at Grandview Center in Cumberland. She was the beloved wife of the late Henry E. Nikodem.
Born in Woonsocket she was a daughter of the late Simon and Mary (Karas) Namaka.
She lived at Atria for the past 8 months formerly living in Pawtucket and Cumberland.
Mrs. Nikodem was a member of the Ladies Adoration Society Of Holy Cross Church Central Falls.
