December 10th
PAWTUCKET — Tolman and Shea put on quite a show for the fans on Friday night during the championship game of the James W. Donaldson Memorial Tournament.
The Tigers and Raiders went toe-to-toe in the second half as Shea rallied to take a 44-43 lead with 1:42 left in the game. Tolman responded with a pair of steals that iced a 48-45 victory.
Francisco Lopes
SMITHFIELD - Francisco Lopes, 83, of Smithfield and beloved husband of Maria de Lourdes Almeida Lopes for 58 years, passed away peacefully Thursday morning surrounded by his loving family.
Born on February 8, 1927 in Esmolfe, Penalva do Castelo, Portugal, he was the son of the late Jose Lopes and Miquelina de Campos.
Elsie E. Evans
LINCOLN - Elsie E. Evans 95 died Wednesday at the Hallworth House, Providence. She was the wife of the late Irving E. Evans. They were married for seventy years.
Born in Cumberland a daughter of the late Daniel and Sarah Jane (Peters) Partington. She resided in Cumberland most of her life moving to Lincoln in 1978.
Lillian C. Emery
CUMBERLAND - Lillian C. Emery, 91, of Cumberland, formerly of Central Falls and Florida passed away Tuesday, December 7, 2010. She was the wife of the late Maurice Emery. Born in Central Falls she was the daughter of the late George and Alice (Turcotte) Caouette.
Shirley L. Driscoll
PAWTUCKET - Shirley L. Driscoll, 90, passed away Friday, December 10, 2010. She was the wife of the late Daniel Driscoll. Born in Attleboro, MA, she was the daughter of the late Charles and Veronica (Lamb) Cobb. Mrs. Driscoll was a Certified Nursing Assistant for Paquette Nursing Home of Central Falls before retiring. She is survived by seven children, Robert and Gary Bears, Daniel, Sharon, and Paul Driscoll, Angela Gasbarre, and Robin Hulme, eleven grandchildren and seventeen great grandchildren. She was the mother of the late Susan Kennedy.
Lois F. Jackson
CUMBERLAND - Lois F. (Rainey) Jackson, 75, of Mendon Road died Wednesday, December 8, 2010 at the Philip Hulitar Inpatient Center, Providence. She was the beloved wife of Albert A. Jackson.
Born in Pawtucket, a daughter of the late Charles and Isabelle (Pollock) Rainey, she had lived in Pawtucket for most of her life before moving to Cumberland 12 years ago.
Mrs. Jackson was a bookkeeper at the Boys & Girls Club of Pawtucket for 12 years, retiring in 2005.
She was a graduate of Pawtucket West High School.

PAWTUCKET – It will be two former division rivals squaring off for Lynch Memorial Tournament supremacy come Saturday night.
Woonsocket fought back from a 48-42 deficit with less than three minutes remaining to post a 53-48 triumph over defending champion Central Falls Thursday night in opening round action at the Pawtucket Boys & Girls Club. Woonsocket will now take on St. Raphael, which ran past Providence Country Day, 71-45.
PAWTUCKET – It wouldn’t have felt the same had Tolman not been playing Shea in the championship of the Donaldson Memorial Tournament. Before such a scenario could be crystalized, Tolman had to get past Pilgrim in Thursday’s opening round.
LINCOLN — This time of year always concerns Dave Sale, not only Lincoln's Recycling Coordinator/Facilities Manager but also the one in charge of the town's special projects.
One such project is the Lincoln Holiday Basket Program, and a sub-section of that is “The Giving Tree.” That's where residents are asked to stop by Town Hall, pluck a tag with the gender and age of a needy child in town from a bulletin-type board, purchase an appropriate Christmas/holiday gift for him or her, then place it under the lavishly-decorated pine in the main foyer.
Some things I think I think:
If you want to scare the daylights out of a Yankees fan, mention that A.J. Burnett might have a few problems dealing with Boston’s revised 2011 batting order. Now that the Red Sox have added lefty hitters Adrian Gonzalez and Carl Crawford to their lineup, sidearming right-handers like Burnett will be in big trouble against the Sox, who already have J.D. Drew and David Ortiz around as legitimate lefty power hitters.

PAWTUCKET - Shirley M. Venturini, passed away Tuesday at her home in Pawtucket surrounded by her family after a long illness. She was the wife of the late Victor J. Venturini, Sr. Born in Cumberland, RI, she was the only child of the late Eugene and Rita (Carr) Dugas.
She is survived by her children; Francine, Rita, Robert, Dale, Gary, Kevin and William; as well as her 17 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren.
Shirley was the mother of the late Victor Venturnini, Jr. and Paul Venturini.
Eva M. Palardy
JOHNSTON - Eva M. Palardy, 86 of Johnston died on Wednesday at Miriam Hospital. She was the wife of the late Joseph Palardy. Born in Central Falls, she had been a resident there until 1960, then of Providence for 27 years and later of Johnston. She was a communicant of Our Lady of Grace Church in Johnston. Mrs. Palardy had been the owner of the former Eva's Lunch in Providence and also had been employed at the former Merit Glasses and Universal Opticals in RI.
Francis M. Donais
PAWTUCKET - Francis M. Donais, 78, passed away unexpectedly on Friday, December 3, 2010. Born in Fall River, a son of the late John and Rose (Roppe) Donais, he resided in Pawtucket since 1938. Francis was a Korean War U.S. Army veteran. He was employed by the former Corning Glass Works and GTE, now Osram-Sylvania of Central Falls for 30 years before retiring in 1994. He was the brother of John P. Donais with whom he resided and the late Marie Lorraine Warzeka. He also leaves two nephews, Thomas W. Warzeka of West Warwick and John F. Warzeka of Cranston.
John Lopes-Pina Jr
CENTRAL FALLS: John Lopes-Pina Jr, 78, of 466 Hunt St, passed peacefully with his loving family by his side. He was the husband of the late Dorothy T. (Messier) Pina.
Born in Cumberland, a son of the late John and Laura(Lizotte) Pina. He had been employed as a Truck Driver of over 30 years by Messier Trucking of Lincoln.
John was a Navy Veteran of the Korean War from 1951-1954 and was a member of the Gatchell VFW Post 306.
Marjorie E. Preston
FLORIDA - Marjorie E. Preston, 86, of University Oaks, Bronson, FL, died peacefully on December 2, 2010 at Parkland Rehabilitation & Nursing Home, Gainesville, FL.
Stanley C. Wolters
BRISTOL - Stanley C. Wolters, 79, of Bristol and formerly of Pawtucket died November 20, 2010. He was the husband of the late Ida C. Wolters.
Mr. Wolters was a supervisor in the receiving department of Texas Instruments for over 38 years. He was a United States Navy Veteran of the Korean War, a longtime Mason in the Union Lodge, and a lifelong member of St. Matthew Trinity Lutheran Church in Pawtucket.
James R. Harrington, Jr.
PAWTUCKET James R. Harrington, Jr., 73, passed away Tuesday, December 7, 2010. He was the beloved husband of the late Patricia A. (Mulligan) Harrington. A lifelong resident of Pawtucket, he was a son of the late James R. Harrington, Sr. and M. Elizabeth (McDonough) Harrington.
Rita T. Grimley
PAWTUCKET - Rita T. Grimley, 89, of Pawtucket died Wednesday, December 8, 2010. She was the wife of the late Edward T. Grimley.
Mrs. Grimley was born in Central Falls the daughter of Catherine O'Gara.
She was a secretary at Saylesville Finishing before becoming a full time mother for her children. She later served as a loving caregiver for all her children's children.
Mrs. Grimley was a longtime communicant of St. Teresa's Church.
