Pawtucket’s Chattelle seeks MMA middleweight title

At this time last year, fighting for a championship was the furthest thing from Todd Chattelle’s mind.
The Pawtucket fighter was a few weeks removed from the worst defeat of his pro career -- a knockout loss to undefeated Derek Brunson that saw Chattelle hit the canvas just 14 seconds into the fight. Chattelle was hoping to keep his record above .500 with a hard-fought win, but instead, he slipped to 6-6.

That may have changed a bit on Tuesday afternoon, after he watched and listened to Jim Moulton, a lead training and support manager for iRobot Corp. out of Bedford, Mass., describe the dozens of uses of the “310 SUGV,” an acronym for Small, Unmanned Ground Vehicle.

PAWTUCKET - Ronald J. Hanley, 77, passed away Saturday, November 12, 2011. Born in Providence, the son of the late Lester and Catherine (Carroll) Hanley, he resided in Pawtucket most of his life. Ron was a Korean War Air Force veteran. He was employed by the Carol Cable Company for many years until its closing. Ron was an avid sports fan, he especially loved the St. Louis Cardinals.
He leaves a daughter, Sheryl J. Pandolfi; two sons, Steven R. Hanley and Christopher M. Hanley; his former wife, Susan Y. (Amaral) Vachon and three grandchildren all of Pawtucket.

PAWTUCKET - Yolande M. Lepine, "Betty", 86, of Pawtucket, passed away Wednesday, November 16, 2011. She was the former wife of the late Alfred Lepine. Born in Pawtucket, she was the daughter of the late Josephat and Victoria(Robitaille) Laramee. Mrs. Lepine was a lifelong resident of Pawtucket. Yolande was a communicant of St. Cecilia's Church in Pawtucket and attended school there as well. She served as a parish Den mother and Boy Scout leader for many years.

Watchdog groups urge reform passage

PROVIDENCE – Demonstrating vigilance against what they fear might be “eleventh-hour, last minute shenanigans” pulled by the General Assembly on the pension reform legislation scheduled for a final vote on Thursday, three government watchdog groups held a Statehouse press conference to urge that the bill be passed in its current form.

BRIDGEPORT, Ct. – Believe it or not, Providence College and Fairfield actually played a basketball game on Monday night.
Such an important detail can get easily lost in the wash considering the pregame circumstances. On one side of the court stood Ed Cooley, the new PC coach whose previous port of call was Fairfield. On the opposite side of the scorer’s table resided a group of players that Cooley was instrumental in recruiting, among them Pawtucket native Rakim Sanders.

Manfredo fights for WBC middleweight title Saturday

PAWTUCKET --- Fights don’t get any bigger or significant than the one Peter Manfredo Jr. has on Saturday night.
If the Manfredo’s Gym middleweight beats undefeated Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. at Houston’s Reliant Arena, he will take home Chavez’s WBC (World Boxing Council) championship belt and be in line for a huge payday in the form of an expected title defense against former WBC champion Sergio Martinez.

That time of year again — watch out for deer

LINCOLN — Route 116 South, near the intersection to Blackstone Valley Place proved to be quite the scene on Monday morning.
Two elderly women had been traveling southbound at about 9:30 a.m. when a deer leaped in front of their 2002 Buick Century and crashed through its windshield and roof, ripping a massive hole. In the process, the animal struck a 75-year-old passenger from Central Falls, and the woman suffered injuries to her head and face, stated Police Capt. Raymond Bousquet.

PAWTUCKET - Rose E. Bonacorsi, 93, of Dover Street, Pawtucket died Sunday, November 13, 2011 at home surrounded by her loving family. She was the wife of the late Alfred Bonacorsi.
Mrs. Bonacorsi was born in Pawtucket the daughter of Julio and Maria (Vanni)Scarpetti. She worked in a supervisory role at Rhode Island Textiles for many years.
She is survived by her daughter, Rosemarie "Sis" Emond, with whom she made her home, eight grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by a son, Richard Bonacorsi.

LOS ANGELES - Margaret L. Blake, 96, passed away on November 10, 2011. Margaret was born on December 19, 1914 in Central Falls R.I. Margaret was preceded in death by her parents Charles and Mary (Clavin) Blake, her sister Mary Hainey, and her brothers Charles, Raymond, Joseph, and Richard Blake. She was the beloved baby sister of the Blake family.

CUMBERLAND - Maria Andrews, 86, of 55 Hunter Drive, passed away Saturday at Home and Hospice Care of RI, Providence. She was the wife of the late Albert F. Andrews.
Born in Fall River, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Mary (Aguiar) Costa.
Mrs. Andrews resided in Cumberland for over 40 years, previously residing in Pawtucket. She was a communicant of St. Aidan Church.

PAWTUCKET - E. Claire Roy Beaucage, formerly of Benjamin Street, Pawtucket died Friday, November 11, 2011. She was the wife of the late Edward A. Beaucage.
Mrs. Beaucage was born in Pawtucket, the daughter of the late Arthur and Emma (Shabbott) Roy. She was an Executive Secretary for the Pawtucket Mutual Insurance Company for over 40 years before she retired in 1987.
She is survived by her cousin, Connie Randall of Pawtucket.

PAWTUCKET - Joaquim Gomes, 84, passed away Thursday at Home & Hospice Inpatient Center in Providence after an illness. He was the husband of the late Maria "Julia" Gomes.
He was born Guarda, Portugal and migrated to the US 41 years ago. He had been employed at Slater Dye Works for more than 30 years.
He leaves a daughter, Maria Barbosa of Pawtucket, 2 sons, Manuel Gomes of Pawtucket and Antonio Gomes of No. Providence and 6 Grandchildren. He was the father of the late Joseph Gomes.

LEESBURG, Fla. - Betty Jane Fewster, 74, of Lakeview Drive in Leesburg, Fla. Died on Nov. 10, 2011 in Waterman Hospital, Tavares. She was the wife of Carl Fewster.
The daughter of the late Paul and Helen (Bowes) Eve, Mrs. Fewster was an LPN who had worked in various Rhode Island hospitals prior to her retirement 10 years ago.
