PAWTUCKET â Once again, the humble buildings and streets of Pawtucket will serve as movie stand-ins for places in a more major metropolis. Over the next few weeks, film crews will be in and around the downtown, shooting scenes for an independent crime drama, set in Boston, that its supporters hope becomes a major motion picture.

Fire Capt. Steven Parent, who has been fire marshal for about two years, found himself in the hot seat this week after being featured on reporter Jim Hummel's on-line news website âThe Hummel Report.â
PROVIDENCE â To Ryan Kalish, the time and sweat heâs putting in this offseason has a rewarding vibe surrounding it â the kind that provides the 24-year-old Red Sox outfielder with the sort of reassurance that heâll be ready to answer the bell come spring training.
At first blush, the task of Cumberland and Woonsocket laying the groundwork for the seasonâs biggest game doesnât seem entirely daunting â especially since weâre referencing two squads that staged a gridiron tussle merely eight days ago.
With only three days between the semifinals and Sundayâs Division II Super Bowl, the art of familiarity helps to take a little strain off of the preparation process. Time has become a valuable commodity, and if youâre going to step into the ring of fire, what better opponent to have than someone where introductions are not required?

PAWTUCKET â As everyone knows, being a Marine is not about fun and games â except at Christmastime, when they volunteer their valuable time to drum up donations for the annual Toys for Tots program.
In Rhode Island, this year's Toys for Tots program is being supervised by Staff Sgt. Michael Cremin. Under his watch, a handful of local Marines have amassed thousands of new toys for youngsters who would otherwise go without during the holiday season.
WOONSOCKET â The mountainous cache of toys and games did not originate at the North Pole, it was not created by elves, and it did not arrive by sleigh.
It was manufactured by Pawtucket-based Hasbro, Inc., and hefted up a flight of stairs by the toy giantâs employees, one shipping crate at a time, onto the creaky floor of an old spinning mill on Mendon Road.
But when underprivileged kids find the goodies under Christmas trees from Woonsocket to Westerly on the big day, no one has to know they didnât come from Santa.
