Chris Iannetta’s “Get Out of Jail Free” card arrived two weeks ago when the St. Raphael Academy alumnus was acquired by the Los Angeles Angels to be their everyday catcher.
Relocating from the Rocky Mountains that adorn Colorado to sun-splashed Southern California has already reaped one major benefit for the 28-year-old. Keep in mind that Iannetta has yet to suit up for his new manager, but that didn’t stop Mike Scioscia from lavishing praise upon his new catcher during last week’s winter meetings.
Lawrence S. Iacovone
PAWTUCKET - Lawrence S. Iacovone, Jr., 54 of Pawtucket died Wednesday, December 7, 2011 at Memorial Hospital. Lawrence was the beloved husband of Barbara Iacovone.
Born in Pawtucket he was the son of the late Lawrence S. and Beatrice (Hargreaves) Iacovone, Sr. Lawrence attended Bryant College and was a graduate of Roger Williams University.
Claire B. Leeds
NEW JERSEY - Claire B. Leeds (nee Beaulac), Age 92. Haddon Twp., NJ on Dec. 10, 2011 formerly of Allendale, NJ & New Smyrna Beach, FL.
Beloved wife of 60 years to the late Joseph Barron Leeds; beloved mother of Dr. Kathryn (John) Meininger, Ellen (Cameron) Zebrun and Barron (Casey) Leeds; devoted grandmother of Jennifer, Michelle, Cory, Kristen, Emily & Heather; and great grandmother of Kayleigh & Max.
Raised in Pawtucket, RI, Claire was awarded BA in English & French from Brown University in 1941.
Bertha Robitaille
PAWTUCKET - Marie L. "Bertha" Robitaille 95, died on Saturday at her home in Pawtucket. She was the wife of the late Joseph H. Robitaille. Born in Woonsocket, a daughter of the late Alcidas and Emilia (LaRose) Girard, she had been a resident of Pawtucket for several years. Prior to retirement in 1978 she had been employed as a textile worker with the former Bonin Spinning Company. She was an avid bowler with the Walnut Hill Bowling group and a devoted Red Sox fan.
Richard S. Cormier
LAS VEGAS, NV - Richard S. Cormier 73, formerly of River Road, Lincoln, passed into eternal life December 7, 2011 in Las Vegas after a 5 year battle with cancer. He was the beloved husband of Dolores (Garcia) Cormier and has lived in Las Vegas for the last 12 years.
He was born in Central Falls, a son of the late Wilfred and Estelle (Giroux) Cormier. Richard worked in the family business, Cormier Sand & Gravel for several years and later with Baccala Corp. at a Ready Mixed Concrete plant as a foreman. He also was a truck driver and a member of the Teamsters Union.
Esther P. Barber
PAWTUCKET - Esther P. (Roderick) Barber, 83 of Pawtucket, died Sunday after a short illness. She was the wife of the late George Barber. She is survived by her sons, Richard and his wife Darlene, George and Rodney Barber and daughter-in-law Janet Viano-Vessella. She was also the mother of the late Calvin Barber.
She leaves 8 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday at 11:00 AM in St. Martha's Church Church, 2595 Pawtucket Ave., East Providence.

Lucienne M. Genereux
CENTRAL FALLS - Lucienne M. Genereux, 95, died surrounded by all her loving children December 10th. She was the wife of the late Donat J. Genereux.
Born in Canada, she was a daughter of the late Theodore and Lumina (Perron) Routhier. Lucienne was a loving mother and enjoyed family gatherings most of all.
Lucienne was a Eucharistic Minister at the former Notre Dame Church, a member of their Seniors Club, and a member of the Central Falls Seniors.
Maria N. Hoyos
CENTRAL FALLS: Maria N. Hoyos, 84, passed December 11th. She was the wife of the late Libardo Franco.
She is survived by a daughter, Gladys Franco with whom she resided, 5 sons, John, Libardo, Carlos Arturo, Luis Edwardo and Javier Franco Hoyos, 6 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren.
Lillian D. Brousseau
PAWTUCKET - Lillian D. Brousseau is going to spend Christmas with her Lord & Savior, her husband, and her son. She died at the age of 100 on December 9, 2011 at the St. Jeanne Jugan Residence.
She was born in Manville, the oldest of seven children of the late Edward and Alexandrina (Blais) Valois. She was the beloved wife of the late Wilfred E. Brousseau. They were happily married for 69 years.
Stella B. Gawlik
PAWTUCKET - Stella B. Gawlik 87, passed away Friday December 9, 2011. She was the beloved wife of the late John J. Gawlik who passed away August 1, 2011.
Born in Pawtucket she was a daughter of the late Peter and Mary (Wolodkiewicz) Dzierzyc. She lived in Pawtucket for 35 years and was formerly of Central Falls.
Before retiring Stella was employed as a Secretary for the Mansion Nursing Home. Mrs. Gawlik was a member of St. Joseph's Church Holy Rosary Society.
Theodore Juczyk
CENTRAL FALLS - Theodore Juczyk 92, of Henry Street passed away Friday December 9, 2011 at Pawtucket Memorial Hospital. He was the beloved husband of Hilda E.(Jarjoura) Juczyk.
Born in Pawtucket he was a son of the late Frank and Julia (Roman) Juszczyk. He lived in Central Falls for most of his life.
Before retiring he was employed as a C V Operator for Carol Cable Co. for 40 years.
Mr. Juczyk was a WWII Army Veteran serving in Europe and a member of the Fierlit-Korzen A.L. Post 79 of Central Falls.

PAWTUCKET – Sure, tournament bragging rights were on the line when Tolman and Shea met Saturday night in the finals of the James W. Donaldson Memorial Tip-Off Tournament, which is designed to pay homage to the memory of the longtime Tolman High teacher and coach. It’s just that there’s a whole other realm to take into account.
PAWTUCKET – For St. Raphael Academy, Saturday’s game against Providence Country Day was merely a matter of surviving.
Playing for the third time in as many days, the Saints did just enough to squeeze out an 81-73 victory in the championship game of the Dennis M. Lynch Jr. Memorial Tournament.
Junior Charles Correa stole the show at the Pawtucket Boys & Girls Club on his way to earning tourney MVP honors, registering a game-high 30 points to go along with seven assists and five rebounds.
WARWICK – Tolman High took care of business on Saturday night, scoring early and often en route to an 8-0 victory over Warwick Veterans.
The Tigers struck just 14 seconds into the game when Ryan Pedro converted a pass from Ed Reall for a 1-0 lead. Kody Casavant then scored the next game less than one minute later. Ryan Deighan and Reall added goals to give Tolman a 4-0 lead after one period.
St. Teresa's Middle School seventh graders sing "O, Come All Ye Faithful" as part of their Christmas song presentation during the St. Teresa's Senior Citizens Group Annual Christmas Party Thursday afternoon at the St. Teresa of the Child Jesus Church Hall in Pawtucket.
CUMBERLAND — The Town Council Wednesday voted 5 to 2 to award a multi-year contract to North Smithfield-based Coastal Recycling, Inc. for curbside collection of recyclables, despite protests from the only other company submitting proposals for the contract that the selection process was unfair.
